The idea of Right the first time coined by a well-known designer Lee Richie who in his famous book Right the First time gave two basic examples of Golden Gate Bridge and Boeing 777 to help understand the idea of Right the First Time. They didn’t have any prototype to follow in these two products. Those were just made at the first time using the extensive pre-engineering analysis. These above examples are from civil and Mechanical Engineering where much of the research have been done and documented to follow. However new technologies and Electronics and Electrical Engineering products are always tough to produce without prototyping and error and hit method.

Right the First-Time philosophy not only applicable in the field on technologies but in every field of society, politics, economy, environment etc. For example, our Indian constitution was the best example of Right the First Time. They had clear and crisp idea in the form of Objective resolution based on which whole constitution was formed. They studied and grilled themselves for different provisions so well that they came up with such s robust constitution which has been unchanged and error free for so many years now. It has not been gone through any structural change ever since barring amendments here and there. 

Divadesam Technologies feels that firms’ internal environment and development approach must bank on to this philosophy and work culture based on the Right the First Time. They need it because every emerging company wants to minimize the cost and time of production. This is the only way for greater success and market rapport producing efficient products in relatively less time. However, adopting this philosophy doesn’t give the freedom to avoid the testing section of the production. A unit testing and full system testing is always required to complete an error free product and their long-term proper functions. Therefore, to carried out the philosophy of Right the first time we need extra ordinary efforts right from the inception of the products and the highest level of pre-engineering analysis.

Simulation environments are used these days for pre-production analysis. Electrical and Electronics engineering are not using these methods perfectly because of two reasons, one is electrical, and electronics productions are leading with too small items sometimes, even Nano level technologies that it goes beyond any imagination of common engineers. Second, successive imagination of pre -engineering analysis also takes enough time that it would be similar to simulation prototyping and hit and trial procedure. This situation leads to the design gap. Designs during the pre-engineering analysis are sometimes theory based, and they have little practical relevance because these designs are made in such a way that they need best practices and zero error production to implement. That is why it is said that Design is often based on what is possible rather than what is reasonable.

How to develop the work culture for Right the First Time? Simply, by following the pre-established set of rules. Every sector has some pre-defined models of development. To achieve the objective of being Right the First Time when designing the system and implementing the design we have to follow some sets of rules which can include some standard industry and production practices, conventional methods, rules developed by seniors and previous design experiences. However, these rules are not for eternity, they can change according to the requirement at the time of implementation based on following any new engineering analysis process.
